![]() When installing batteries (not supplied) into the remote, it isn't the usual slot-and-slide. The remote: volume (+ mute) input selector TR/UL toggle. There are no tone or balance control knobs on the R8. The R8 operates in either triode or ultra-linear mode and this can be switched on-the-fly whilst listening. The tubes supplied with the R8 are marked (v1 to v9 respectively) but replacements won't be. Installing the tubes takes time but is easy - care needs to be taken not to mix up the 6SN7 and 6SL7 tubes. The product manual contains a table showing replacement tube compatibility. The R8 takes KT88 or E元4 power tubes (setting needs to be switched), as well as 6550s which use the same setting as KT88s. The spacing between the RCA inputs on the back of the R8 is excellent - no need to worry about some of the chunkier RCA plugs being too big to fit. There is a headphone socket (6.3mm) on the left side of the amp. There is one set of speaker posts but with separate positive (red) binding posts for 4 ohms and 8 ohms respectively. Three of the four pairs were sleeved in plastic dust caps. The R8 has 3 line inputs plus a pre-in input (all RCA). Tubes, individually packed in bubble wrap within flexible (but fragile!) gauze R8 amp (silver/black for me) + tube cage cover (black) In short, well packed and well protected. Opening the (main) box reveals a second box, firmly held in place by the sort of shaped foam protection usually seen around the actual hi-fi units inside boxes. What arrived? A fairly large box weighing close to 30Kgs. The purchase was intended for a second system but more of that later. Taking into account observations in other reviews about the tonal differences between the tube types, I ordered a separate set of E元4 tubes at the same time. Mine was ordered with the default KT88 power tubes although that can be changed to E元4s at the time of ordering. The factual /setup stuff is first, the listening stuff is lower down.Īs threatened indicated elsewhere, here are some observations about the Willenton R8 Tube Integrated Amplifier which I've now had for a few days. Heads-up: this is a very, very long post. The cassette adapter has a special silent mechanism that reduces the mechanical ‘clunking’ noise and it also has a self-adjusting spring head.Willsenton R8 KT88/E元4 x4 Tube Integrated Amp Power Amplifier Headphone : China-hifi-Audio online store, Yaqin,Meixing Mingda,XiangSheng,Line Magnetic Tube Amplifier, power amp, preamp,hi-fi CD Player high end audio for sale - $893.18 USD It’s easy to use too and is compatible with car cassette decks which have a side opening. The Walkman CPA-9C can be used in conjunction with your CD player, MP3 player and more. This enables it to ‘read’ the magnetic field and send a message to the inductor which allows the head unit to reproduce a sound signal like a traditional cassette tape.įor amazing value for money and a brand that knows and understands cassette players like no one else, we chose the Walkman Car Connecting Pack for our best choice cassette adapter. ![]() The special head inside the tape deck doesn’t know the difference between a real cassette and a cassette adapter. When the wire (or cord) is plugged into a CD player or iPhone/MP3 player it carries a signal to a special inductor inside the cassette adapter which then creates a magnetic fields that works with the signal from the audio device. Where normally there you will find reels of tape inside, a cassette adapter has a special transmitting head which is connected to an input cord that leads directly to the music source. You will find that the inside of a cassette adapter looks very different from a traditional tape. Some people have problems with cassette adapters that do stop and reverse, in this case the adapter is no doubt faulty and this could be due to the gear mechanism being broken. Without this device your cassette adapter would continue to stop and reverse and wouldn’t be able to play a continuous loop. Cassette adapters feature a special mechanism made from a series of gears that ‘tricks’ the head unit into not stopping or reversing. What next would occur is that the cassette would automatically reverse and start playing the other side.Ĭassette adapters aren’t real cassettes (well at least not on the inside) which means that inner mechanisms are completely different. People who have grown up listening to cassette tapes will be all to familiar with the sound of the tape when it reaches the end – like a loud CLUNK. There is a special feature in sometape decks and cassette tapes that allows the tape deck to stop playback or reverse the playback when it’s reached the end of the cassette. Q: Why Doesn’t the Tape Deck Try To Reverse?
